Rush Limbaugh

* Re “Limbaugh Is Not Ready for Prime Time,” by Jeff Cohen and Steve Rendall, Commentary, June 7: I found the article on Rush Limbaugh and Monday Night Football to be one of the most misleading and misconstrued pieces I have ever read. It is true that Limbaugh has made fun of all the people and groups mentioned. However, he made fun of them because of their liberal positions and not because of their color.

Let’s look at some facts. Rush and Marta Limbaugh were married by Clarence Thomas. Walter Williams is a frequent guest host on Rush’s show. Rush has talked about Colin Powell, J.C. Watts and Ward Connerly in the most glowing of terms. What do all of these people have in common? They are all African Americans, and they are all conservative.

I have found Limbaugh to be completely colorblind. For years his screener, one of the more important people for a talk show, was a man of color.

Say it isn’t so. With viewing numbers slipping for Monday Night Football in the last few years, why on Earth would ABC even consider Limbaugh as a color commentator? I can only assume that John Rocker wasn’t available. If Limbaugh is hired, it won’t be just the players who will boycott the show, it will be this household, also.

Bring back Boomer!
