Brea Olinda High School teacher Scott Malloy, an instructor of advanced-placement computer science and statistics classes, was named one of five Orange County Teachers of the Year Thursday.

Malloy was recognized by the county for raising his students’ scores and helping elementary students develop an interest in chess through a districtwide after-school program.

“I think in a nutshell, Scott is able to expect a lot from his students but at the same time help those out who need it to achieve,” Doug Kimberly, principal of Brea Olinda High.
