Summer Rotation

It’s a jam-packed summer for TV with new series on CBS (the controversial “Big Brother” and “Survivor”) and NBC (“Sammy”), as well as new series, specials and movies on cable and PBS. The cable networks have new episodes of such series as HBO’s “Oz,” Showtime’s “Stargate SG1” and “The Outer Limits” and MTV’s “The Real World” and “Road Trip.” Meanwhile, USA unveils three new series in July.

Throughout June, A&E; will have all new installments of its popular “Biography” franchise. In August, the Discovery Channel kicks off its 13th annual “Shark Week” showcase with the network’s first 3-D special. Here’s a look at what’s on tap this summer.

“The Rockies”: Peter Fonda hosts a four-part documentary on the Rocky Mountains. June 19-22. The History Channel.

“Was Justice Denied?”: Documentary exploring two potential cases of wrongful imprisonment. June 20. TNT.

“Greener Grass: Cuba, Baseball and the United States”: Documentary on the nations’ shared passion for baseball. June 26. KCET.

“Hollywood at Your Feet: The Story of the Chinese Theatre Footprints”: A look at the famed movie theater and its court of footprints and signatures. June 27. AMC.

“A Capitol Fourth”: Barry Bostwick hosts the annual holiday concert from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington. July 4. KCET and KVCR.

“Pops Goes the Fourth!”: Keith Lockhart conducts the festive concert featuring the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. July 4. A&E.;

“Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular”: A pyrotechnic spectacular from New York City. July 4. NBC.

“Strong Medicine”: Janine Turner headlines a medical drama produced by Whoopi Goldberg. July 23. Lifetime.

“Sammy”: David Spade is the voice of a father and his son in this animated comedy loosely based on his relationship with his real-life father. July 25. NBC.
