Transit Possibilities
* “Don’t Blow Transit Opportunity” (editorial, June 9) asks, regarding opposition to a proposed Wilshire busway: “Why wasn’t this dispute ironed out earlier? Why did the MTA board press ahead on a line with so many detractors?” I think Mayor Richard Riordan and Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, chief proponents of this idea, should answer that question.
“Enthusiasm Limited for High-Speed Rail” (June 10) describes the infatuation among many business leaders for a proposed regional magnetic levitation train. Everyone I know with any knowledge of these issues rolls their eyes at this idea. Mark my word, maglev could be a debacle that would make the subway seem like a cakewalk by comparison.
