SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Los Angeles police are investigating a possible relationship between two shootings late Wednesday evening within a mile of one another in Panorama City.

The first incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. in the 13000 block of Roscoe Boulevard. Police said 27-year-old Felix Orlando Perez of Panorama City was using a pay phone outside a bar when one or possibly two gunmen fired several shots at him. Perez was struck multiple times and was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he died a short time later, police added.

“Right now the details are really sketchy,” said LAPD Officer Mike Oppelt of the Devonshire Division. “We don’t have a motive at this time and we don’t know if any vehicle was involved.”

Twenty minutes later in the 8400 block of Cedros Avenue, a group of men parked two vehicles at a shopping center. Oppelt said two to four men got out of the vehicles and began firing at a group of people in front of an apartment complex.

One victim, whose age was unknown, was shot in the upper body and was taken to Holy Cross, where he remains in critical condition. A 22-year-old woman, who was also shot, was treated and released from Mission Community Hospital in San Fernando, police said.

“We are investigating whether these shootings are connected,” Oppelt added. “Right now we are trying to talk to people who may have seen what happened.”
