Irvine Police Car Crash Injures 3

Share

An Irvine police officer suffered minor injuries Thursday when his unmarked car was broadsided in an intersection by a sedan driven by a Buena Park woman, authorities said.

Officer John Coletrane was responding to another traffic accident at 5:48 p.m. and reportedly had activated his car’s red light and siren before entering the intersection at MacArthur Boulevard and Red Hill Avenue.

Bruised and shaken-up, the 20-year veteran officer crawled out of the passenger window, checked on the occupants in the other car and started setting up traffic cones--”things you do instinctively,” said Irvine Lt. Dave Freedland.

The driver of the Chevrolet Caprice and her male passenger were transported to Western Medical Center--Santa Ana and treated for minor injuries. Coletrane was taken to Irvine Medical Center and was released later that night.

No arrests have been made, but the California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
