3 Killed, 2 Hurt in Wreck Near Barstow
Three people were killed and two were injured in a wreck Saturday on Interstate 15, forcing the closure of the main route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, authorities said.
The single-vehicle accident occurred about 10 miles north of Barstow at 12:01 p.m., said Cheryl Hansen, a California Highway Patrol communications supervisor.
One victim had head injuries and was listed in critical condition at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, said Mai Phan, an emergency room nurse.
A second victim was taken by ambulance to Barstow Community Hospital. That person’s condition was not immediately released.
The identities of the victims were not released pending the completion of the investigation. It was unclear what caused the crash.
The accident left the northbound lanes near Minneola Road closed for two hours. One lane was reopened while the investigation continued, officials said, and traffic was backed up for more than two miles.
