Death Penalty

Share

* An observation on the current discussion about the death penalty: In California we could execute an inmate a week for the next 10 years and still not do away with the backlog of people waiting to be executed. Imagine how the governor, the warden at San Quentin and the death squad would feel after several months of executions at that pace.

And even if we proceeded at that rate, at the end of the 10-year period, we would probably have just as many on the waiting list as we do now. Something to think about.

Death row prisoners are often deprived of adequate legal representation. Innocent people have been incarcerated because of evidence manufactured by corrupt police. Politicians are indebted to prison guards and their unions because of campaign contributions. Our criminal justice system is broken.
