The Salvation Army of Orange County broke ground Tuesday on a women’s residence for those battling drug and alcohol addiction. The Lewis Street residence will house 28 women in 14 rooms on property where 140 men already reside.
The Salvation Army is building the facility because women with addiction problems are often overlooked, said Pamela Caldwell, director of public relations and communication for the Orange County Salvation Army. “Oftentimes women are not seen as having the same need as men,” Caldwell said. “More and more, we’re recognizing the need.” The women’s residence is expected to open in February.
