Two women were injured Sunday when a Volvo overturned on Laguna Canyon Road, halting traffic in both directions for about two hours, officials said.

The accident occurred after 7 a.m., a few miles south of the San Diego Freeway, according to California Highway Patrol officials, and the highway was closed about an hour later. The women were taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where one, whose identify is unknown, was in critical condition with facial cuts and a pelvic fracture, according to Emily Delfs, a nursing supervisor. The other woman, Barbara Weaver, 58, was in fair condition Sunday evening and was being kept overnight for observation.

The highway was reopened about 10 a.m.
