One of the nine people wounded last week in a drive-by assault-rifle shooting at Athens Park died over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

Melvin Williams, 29, of Los Angeles succumbed to gunshot injuries Friday night at a local hospital, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokeswoman Brenda Johnson.

Williams was among a group of men and boys hanging out in the Willowbrook park Thursday at 8:10 p.m. when a white truck pulled into the parking lot and two men leaned out firing assault rifles. Authorities said that the attack was gang-related and that most of the victims were members of the Athens Park Bloods. Williams was a father, said an acquaintance.
