When school nurse Marcia Noonan decided to get a master’s degree in education administration last year, she did so thinking that she might want to take a desk job one day.

“The reality is now there,” said Noonan, 50, after Irvine Unified School District trustees named her the new coordinator for health services last week.

Noonan will replace Sally Snyder, who is retiring this week.

Like Noonan, who said her predecessor is leaving behind an awesome reputation, Irvine’s newly appointed math and science coordinator said the loss of Dorothy Terman at the helm saddened him.

“I have a lot to learn,” said Mark Sontag, 44, who also received his new appointment this month. He has worked as assistant principal at Sierra Vista Middle School for the last two years.

A 17-year Northwood resident, Noonan will oversee the district’s nine nurses and 19 health clerks and coordinate health education for students and district staff.
