Museum The Ventura County Museum of History and Art will open “The West Remembered: The Art of Edward Borein” Friday, an exhibit of etchings, watercolors and drawings by one of the foremost artists of the American West. The works have been selected from the extensive collection of the late Katherine H. Haley, who was a longtime museum supporter. An opening reception will be held Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. $10.

Classical

Pianist Arnaldo Cohen will join the New West Symphony this weekend for its all-Parisian program, which will be performed at venues in Thousand Oaks and Oxnard. Works will include Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G and Franck’s Symphony in D. Preconcert dinners and lectures will be offered at both venues.

Women

Creative Options Day: A Day for Women will return to Cal Lutheran University on Saturday. The 21st annual daylong event will offer more than 70 workshops on topics including self-defense, sexual harassment, career planning and family issues. Marcia Ann Gillespie, editor of Ms. magazine and president of Liberty Media for Women, will be the keynote speaker.

Family

The Ojai Valley Library Friends and Foundation will hold a fund-raiser Sunday at the Ojai Center for the Arts. “Short Shorts” will offer an afternoon of family entertainment including music and storytelling. Among local performers will be Peter Bellwood and Seabury Gould. Original art will be for sale. Proceeds from the event will benefit library foundation programs and the art center.
