The NFL paid Connecticut $2.4 million to settle the state’s claims over the New England Patriots’ aborted move to Hartford.

Gov. John G. Rowland said the money will reimburse the state for the legal and planning costs incurred during negotiations with the football team.

The settlement comes almost a year after Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft announced he was pulling out of a deal to move his team from Foxboro, Mass., to the Adrian’s Landing development site in downtown Hartford.

The Bullfrogs failed to meet the March 1 deadline imposed by the Arrowhead Pond for a deposit to hold game dates, and team President Rob Montague said an eighth season of professional roller hockey in the county is in jeopardy. “We didn’t draw well last season and the company lost a lot of money,” Montague said. “We can’t give the Pond a deposit now because we’re still in limbo. We’re not sure what we’re going to be doing.”
