In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:

Vanguard 6, Azusa Pacific 5--Sam Baeder had three hits with an RBI and Tim Jara homered to lead host Vanguard (4-11, 2-8) past Azusa Pacific (10-4-1, 4-2). The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the top of the sixth because of darkness with Vanguard leading, 5-1. The game will resume April 11.

In Big West Conference women’s basketball:

CP San Luis Obispo 88, Cal State Fullerton 65--Megan Baskins had 16 points for the host Titans (2-25, 1-14), who lost their 13th straight.

Kristina Naumovic and Heather Cunningham added 11 each for Cal State Fullerton.

In nonconference softball:

Houston Baptist 0-5, Concordia 1-0--Kori Przygocki and Molly Slane had two hits each and Christie Shankles took the loss for host Concordia (3-6), in game one.

In the second game, the Eagles scored an unearned run in the first inning and Carrie Shankles and Andrea Castillo combined on a four hitter.

In the UC Irvine All Cal Cup women’s track and field meet:

UC Irvine wins--Kathy Held, from Saddleback High, won the 100 hurdles (15.74) and 400 hurdles (1:05.22) for Irvine, which won with 255.5 points. UC San Diego was second with 231.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:

UC Irvine 3, Brigham Young 2--Irvine upset the defending Division I NCAA champion, 15-12, 12-15, 15-9, 12-15, 15-13. Ty Loomis had 31 kills and Steve Cavella had 28 for the Anteaters (7-11, 4-9). Chris Pitzak, formerly of Esperanza High, had 81 assists for BYU (14-6, 11-6).
