Beach Closures

A break in the rain has led to cleaner beaches in Ventura County, although 10 locations remain too polluted for swimmers and surfers to use this weekend, the county Environmental Health Division announced Thursday.

The following beaches will have signs posted warning people to keep out of the water: Rincon Beach, at the creek mouth and at the flagpole; McGrath State Beach, half mile north of Gonzales Road and at the south end of McGrath Lake in Oxnard; Mandalay County Park at 5th Street, at Channel Way and at Outrigger Way; Oxnard Shores at Amalfi Way; Hobie Beach in Oxnard; and Channel Islands Harbor Beach park.

Tests conducted this week revealed excessive amounts of disease-causing bacteria in the surf at these locations. Officials advise swimmers, waders and surfers to stay at least 50 yards away from each side of the signs.
