PLACENTIA
Parent protests over plans to move gifted education program out of a Yorba Linda campus led the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District to reverse its decision, at least for a while.
More than 50 angry parents showed up at this week’s school board meeting to oppose a recent district decision to move the Gifted and Talented Education program from Fairmont Elementary to a school in Anaheim.
District officials had decided to make the move two weeks ago after high enrollment at the Yorba Linda campus put classroom space at a premium.
Based on the reaction from parents, the district decided to phase out the program’s move and let Fairmont’s current gifted students stay there until they finish their sixth-grade education.
