Emerson Suffers Broken Finger

Share

Only five games and one goal into his Kings’ career, winger Nelson Emerson figures to be out a while after suffering a broken right index finger when he was slashed 48 seconds into the third period Thursday night by the Flyers’ Daymond Langkow.

“That’s a tape that will be sent in to the league,” King Coach Andy Murray said after the slash was not called by referees Terry Gregson and Shane Heyer.

“The referees said [they] didn’t see it,” Murray said.

Emerson was sent back to Southern California for medical reevaluation, with no idea on when he can return to the ice.

The Kings’ coaches shook up the lines, trying to create some offense, and came up with Luc Robitaille playing on a unit with Bryan Smolinski and Kelly Buchberger; and with Jozef Stumpel centering a line with Emerson (and later Craig Johnson) and Glen Murray.

Flyer Coach Roger Neilson, fighting cancer, was discharged from Hahnemann University Hospital on Thursday after undergoing stem cell transplant surgery on March 10.
