Oregon State Deep-Sixes Matadors

Joe Gerber hit a three-run double during a six-run seventh inning that powered Oregon State to a 10-9 nonconference baseball victory over Cal State Northridge on Friday at Corvallis, Ore.

The Matadors (10-17) built a 5-0 lead, taking advantage of three Oregon State errors to score five unearned runs in the third inning.

Oregon State (14-10) scored four runs in the fourth inning on five consecutive hits and a ground out.

Jason Gorman had three hits and two runs batted in for Northridge, and Bobby Koba added two hits and two RBIs.

Pepperdine 14, San Diego 7--Duke Sardinha hit a two-run double and had four RBIs for the Waves in a West Coast Conference victory at San Diego.

Pepperdine (16-10, 8-1 in WCC play) hit four doubles, including a run-scoring double by Jeremy Coronado in the sixth to take a 9-4 lead.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Crespi 13, Notre Dame 5--Mike Smith (30-0) lost only two games at No. 1 singles and the Celts won a Mission League match at Braemar Country Club.

Simi Valley 14, Newbury Park 4--Jeremiah Waggoner won the last five games to beat Brian McGee, 7-5, at No. 1 singles and help the Pioneers win a Marmonte League match at Rancho Simi Community Park.

BOYS’ TRACK

Reseda 71, Sylmar 56--Aaron Cummings won the boys’ 100 in 11.1 and 220 at 22.6 for the Regents (2-0, 1-0) in a Valley Mission League meet at Reseda.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Grant 85, Verdugo Hills 35--Alexis Weatherspoon won four events for the Lancers (3-0, 1-0) in a Sunset Six League victory at Grant.

Weatherspoon won the 100-meter dash in 12.4 seconds, the 220-yard dash in 25.9, the long jump at 16-10 and the triple jump at 34-10.

BOYS’ GOLF

Campbell Hall 203, Montclair Prep 223--Freshman Tony Kim had three birdies and posted a nine-hole score of two-under par 35 to help the Vikings (7-1, 4-0) win a Delphic League match at Wilson Golf Course in Los Angeles.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Royal def. Thousand Oaks, 11-15, 15-6, 16-14, 15-9--Tommy Brockert served five points as the Highlanders rallied from a 13-5 deficit in the final game for a Marmonte League victory at Thousand Oaks.

Kamil Kowalski had 15 kills and 12 digs for No. 1 Royal (8-0, 6-0), and Casey Wilkinson had 17 kills.
