L.A. County to Repair Mountain Roads
A handful of cracked roads on the fringes of the San Fernando Valley will be repaired this summer, officials said last week.
Los Angeles County will pay up to $660,000 to pave and seal about 12 miles of roads in the Santa Monica Mountains. Beginning in July, parts of Latigo Canyon, Piuma, Red Rock and Arteique roads will be repaved in a project expected to last seven weeks.
Workers will also apply slurry seal, a blend of asphalt and sand that fixes cracks and extends the life of streets, to Viewridge Road in Calabasas, Coastline Drive in Topanga, and Vanowen Street in the unincorporated area of West Hills. That project will take about three weeks.
The county Department of Public Works is scheduled to award contracts for the work in late April, said Joel Bellman, a spokesman for county Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky.
The affected roads may be closed or reduced to one lane during repairs. Local access, however, will be maintained.
