FIRST QUARTER

Share

Lakers: 18

Sacramento: 27

Highlight Reel: If you appreciate defense, then the Lakers’ Ron Harper made a play you would love. Chris Webber led a three-on-one Sacramento fastbreak against Harper, but the Kings came up empty when Harper knocked the ball off of Tony Delk.

It’s Not in the Box Score: Sacramento point guard Jason Williams’ tired crybaby act. Williams, who whined most of the quarter, played only five minutes because of two early fouls.

Winning Number: Six. The minutes played by Delk, who stepped in for Williams and hurt the Lakers with five points on two-of-three field goal shooting.

Wrong Number: Three. The amount of field goal attempts and points for Laker center Shaquille O’Neal in the quarter.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: Glen Rice 7. Kings: Nick Anderson and Delk 5.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: O’Neal 4. Kings: Vlade Divac 6.

Second Quarter

Lakers: 45

Sacramento: 56

Highlight Reel: Kobe Bryant is always a highlight play waiting to happen and he has been sensational in this series. Bryant did his thing again when he slammed home an alley-oop dunk off a 35-foot pass from Ron Harper.

It’s Not in the Box Score: One King who has not been intimidated by the Lakers throughout the series has been Webber, and he showed his grit fighting for every rebound in sight the entire quarter.

Winning Number: Three. The number of three-point baskets made by the freewheeling Kings in the quarter, matching their total for the opening period.

Wrong Number: 16. The amount of rebounds grabbed by the Kings, who outrebounded the Lakers, 31-22, in the half.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: O’Neal 11. Kings: Webber 9.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: Robert Horry, Bryant and O’Neal each with 3. Kings: Webber 6.

Third Quarter

Lakers: 66

Sacramento: 73

Highlight Reel: Kobe Show goes on: Bryant nearly broke Anderson’s ankles with a couple of crossover dribbles before making a scoop layup in the lane that turned into a three-point play, thanks to a foul by Anderson.

It’s Not in the Box Score: After seemingly playing scared in the first two games of the series at Staples Center, Anderson’s confidence in his shot returned at Arco Arena and he made a couple of key baskets in the quarter.

Winning Number: Two. The number of fouls on Divac after three quarters, giving the Kings an advantage to play O’Neal more physically in the final period.

Wrong Numbers: Zero. Points scored in the quarter by any Laker other than O’Neal, Bryant and Rice.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: Bryant 9. Kings: Webber 6.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: O’Neal 4. Kings: Anderson 3.

Fourth Quarter

Lakers: 88

Sacramento: 101

Highlight Reel: Webber has plenty of game. He showed off his versatility on one play when he picked Bryant clean, made a perfect behind-the-back pass and then finished the break with a two-hand power-dunk.

It’s Not in the Box Score: The fresh lively legs of Sacramento’s “Bench Mob.” Led by Predrag Stojakovic, Barry and Delk, the Kings’ reserves wore down the Lakers early in the quarter. Their contributions were even more pronounced, because the Lakers were getting almost nothing from their bench.

Winning Number: 20. Points scored by Delk, Barry and Stojakovic off the bench in the quarter.

Wrong Number: One. Points scored by Rice in the final quarter as the Lakers fell short down the stretch.

Leading Scorers: Lakers: Bryant 12. Kings: Barry 9.

Leading Rebounders: Lakers: Brian Shaw 6. Kings: Webber 3.
