Williams’ Own Goal Gives Crew a 2-1 Win
Richie Williams’ own goal in the 88th minute gave the Columbus Crew a 2-1 victory over D.C. United on Wednesday night in front of 11,872 at Washington.
The Crew had never before won at Washington.
Williams accidentally headed the ball past goalkeeper Mark Simpson after a throw-in.
Columbus, which lost its first 13 matches in Washington, improved to 3-4-1. United dropped to 1-5-1.
The Crew opened the scoring in the 52nd minute when Robert Warzycha sent a direct free kick around the United wall.
The free kick was awarded when Dante Washington was taken down just outside the penalty area by defender Carey Talley.
Talley tied the score in the 57th minute on a header off a crossing pass from Jaime Moreno.
Colorado 2, Chicago 1--Former Chicago forward Junior Agogo had a goal and an assist to lead the Rapids over the Fire before 5,144 at Chicago.
Agogo, traded to the Rapids on April 10 for a draft choice, opened the scoring in the 18th minute and set up Jorge Dely Valdez’s goal in the 71st minute.
Lubos Kubik scored for Chicago in the 78th minute.
Colorado improved to 4-4-0, and Chicago dropped to 3-4-1.

Miles Joseph, one of the last original members of the New York-New Jersey MetroStars, was traded to the Columbus Crew for a second-round draft pick next year. Joseph’s departure leaves Tab Ramos as the lone player remaining from the 1996 season. Joseph, 26, has 10 goals and 22 assists in 96 MLS games.
