Authorities Offer $12,500 Reward in Search for Killer of Sea Otter
Authorities have increased a reward for information leading to the arrest of whoever shot and killed a southern sea otter.
On Thursday, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced that it is upping the reward from $2,500 to $12,500, thanks to contributions from four other organizations.
Friends of the Sea Otter, Defenders of Wildlife, the Humane Society and the Center for Marine Conservation each pledged $2,500, as did the Fish & Wildlife service itself.
The otter was found dead April 15 on the beach between Point Conception and the Piedras Blancas lighthouse.
Southern sea otters are a threatened species, and killing one is punishable by as much as $10,000 in fines.
