A gunman knocked on the door of a home and opened fire on the man who answered Saturday night, shooting him five times, authorities said.

“It’s unusual,” said Sgt. Rick Smith of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills Station. “Just the fact that we’ve got someone shot in Westlake Village is unusual.”

The shooting occurred about 8:20 p.m. in a residential neighborhood just west of Lake Lindero Country Club.

Authorities were called to the home in the 5800 block of Logwood Road by the victim’s mother, Smith said.

The man was rushed to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, said Los Angeles County Fire Supervisor Diana Aronson. A nurse supervisor at the hospital said she had no information about the man’s condition.

“He’s still hanging in there,” said Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Gomez, who said the man was in his 30s.

Smith said deputies had not determined what prompted the attack.

Investigators were searching Saturday night for the assailant, described as a short, white man dressed in black clothing.
