Playwrights, Composer Win $5,000 Awards
A composer and two playwrights on the Orange County performing arts scene are among 38 recipients of $5,000 fellowship awards from the California Arts Council.
The awards honor recipients who have “demonstrated . . . artistic excellence for at least 10 years,” according to a news release from the Arts Council, a state agency.
Composer Jeremy Beck of Yorba Linda was cited for having won “numerous awards and commissions.”
Irvine playwright Mary Fengar Gail was honored for a body of work that includes “Drink Me, or the Strange Case of Alice Times Three,” which will be co-produced by theaters in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
John Glore, literary manager of South Coast Repertory, was cited for a body of work that includes productions for SCR, Berkeley Repertory Theater and Actors Theatre of Louisville.
