Film

Seeing a cave painting from centuries ago is like touching a fading remnant from another world. The 1998 documentary “Bajo California, el limite del tiempo (Under California, the Limit of Time)” was inspired by just this sense of wonder, as director Carlos Bolado sought out the stories behind several ancient artworks on the Baja California peninsula. This film, which won seven Mexican Arieles, is preceded by two car-themed short subjects: Jose Angel Garcia Moreno’s “Cocktail Molotov” and Alejo Flah’s “Taxi.”

* “Bajo California, el limite del tiempo (Under California, the Limit of Time),” “Cocktail Molotov,” “Taxi,” UC Irvine Film and Video Center, Humanities Instructional Building 100. 7 p.m. $5. (949) 824-7418.

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA

Storytellers Festival

It has been said there’s no story that hasn’t been told before, but those who want to be sure can find out at the South Coast Storytellers Guild’s “Storytelling Around the Campfire.” During this two-night festival, guild members and other local spielers will tell tales and sing songs the old-fashioned way: around the fire, with free marshmallows and coat hangers.
