SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A Norwalk woman was clinging to life Thursday after two men in business suits walked up to her doorway and shot her repeatedly.

Sheriff’s deputies said the gunmen apparently have New York connections, but refused to explain the significance of that or to suggest a motive. They said, however, that the attack was not random.

The 32-year-old woman, whom they would not identify, was standing in the doorway of her house in the 12000 block of Beaty Street at 8 p.m. Wednesday when the attack occurred, said Deputy Elizabeth Sachs.

The assailants, said to be in their late 20s or early 30s, drove away in a dark blue, rented car that might have been a Ford Taurus, Sachs said.

“We are asking for the public’s help, especially anyone maybe at a rental agency who may have rented a car in the last 24 hours or so to someone from New York,” she said.

Detectives interviewed the woman’s boyfriend, who apparently witnessed the shooting.
