Alan Thicke, best known for his role as a psychiatrist and father on the television series “Growing Pains,” has been named celebrity grand marshal of the 96th annual Huntington Beach Fourth of July Parade.

The city said Thicke was chosen because his role as a father on the series exemplifies Surf City’s image as a place for families.

As grand marshal, Thicke will ride in a convertible, greeting crowds along the parade route. Thicke will join three other celebrities in the parade: Dennis Haskins, best known for his role as Principal Belding on “Saved By The Bell”; Brad Maule, who plays Dr. Anthony Jones on “General Hospital”; and McKenzie Westmore, who stars as Sheridan Crane on “Passions.”
