Festive Parade Set for Memorial Day

The Canoga Park Memorial Day Parade on Monday promises to spread a festive spirit with marching bands, drill teams, equestrian groups, clowns, floats and classic cars.

There will also be celebrity impersonators at the the 12th annual parade, sponsored by the Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Canoga Park Community Center.

Before the parade, the Los Angeles Police Precision Motorcycle Drill Team will perform at 10:40 a.m.

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Laura Chick will be the grand marshal of the parade, which kicks off at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Sherman Way and Owensmouth Avenue. It will travel east on Sherman Way to De Soto Avenue, then south on De Soto to Vanowen Street, and west on Vanowen to Owensmouth.

During the parade there will be a flyover of World War II planes by the Condor Squadron.

An awards ceremony to honor the best parade entries will take place at Canoga Park High School, where a Western Day fair will be held.

The free event, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the school’s outdoor agriculture department at Vanowen Street and Jordan Avenue, will feature a petting zoo, game booths, food, entertainment and a silent auction.

Local bands will entertain from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at John Quimby Park at De Soto Avenue and Hart Street.
