HUNTINGTON BEACH
The Citizen’s Surfing Advisory Committee will meet at 6 p.m. today in City Hall to discuss the Huntington Beach Pro/Am Surf Series at the Huntington Beach Pier.
The committee will discuss the city’s restrictions on surfing events on the south side of the pier, where the Pro/Am Series and others are restricted to two events annually.
In 1998, the city cut the number of pier surfing events from 25 to 12 each year, restricting them to the south of the Pier.
Seth Matson, who represents the Pro/Am Series, said his group previously held four to five contests a year at the pier, and he hopes to raise the current limit to four. He said another surf organization, the National Scholastic Surf Assn., is allowed to hold up to six.
The meeting will be held in Room B6 in the lower level of City Hall at 2000 Main St. Information: (714) 596-5019.
