LAGUNA NIGUEL

The Orange County Natural History Museum wants volunteers for its Adopt an Acorn project.

Residents can pick up an acorn at the museum then plant it in a tall pot in their home. If the soil is kept moist and cool, a small oak tree will begin to sprout in two to three months. Once the sprout has grown two leaves, volunteers are asked to return to the museum where a docent will show them where and how to plant the tree.

The acorn adoption project is part of an effort to restore native oak groves within Orange County. The museum is in the Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park at 28373 Alicia Parkway. Information: (949) 831-3287.
