Titan Opener Now Another Exhibition

Cal State Fullerton has decided to make tonight’s men’s basketball home game against Simon Fraser, a Canadian team, an exhibition instead of its regular-season opener, the Titan athletic department announced Tuesday.

Games involving U.S. teams against foreign teams can be counted as exhibitions or regular-season games.

“We want to compete, but we’re not at the stage yet where we want to be focusing on winning or losing if we don’t have to,” Titan Coach Donny Daniels said.

All gate receipts from the 7 p.m. game in Titan Gym will go the Rodney Anderson Assistance Fund to help defray medical expenses for the Titan player who was critically wounded in a shooting in Los Angeles last spring.

The Titans opened last season with an 80-77 loss at Simon Fraser.

Fullerton’s first regular-season game will be Nov. 17 at Oregon State and its home opener will be Nov. 28 against Pepperdine.
