Cal State Fullerton basketball player Ike Harmon has been suspended from the team indefinitely for violating team policy, the Fullerton athletic department announced Wednesday.

Donny Daniels, in his first season as the Titans’ coach, said he could not discuss the reasons for the suspension.

“It’s a matter of privacy,” Daniels said Wednesday night. “But Ike will be back on the team as soon as he rectifies the situation. He can do that. It’s in his hands.”

Harmon declined comment Wednesday night. “I don’t want to comment until I’ve had a chance to talk with Coach Daniels about it,” he said.

Harmon, the leading scorer and rebounder for the Titans the last two seasons, has been sidelined since Oct. 18 because of a stress fracture in his left foot. However, Harmon was cleared this week to resume practice with the team, Daniels said. “He’s fine now physically,” Daniels said.

Daniels said Harmon probably wouldn’t have played in the Titans’ opener Friday night against Oregon State at Corvallis, Ore., because of his lack of practice time.

Daniels had said earlier that he didn’t expect Harmon to be back in top form before December.

Harmon, a 6-foot-7 forward, had regained the season of eligibility he lost as a freshman when he was a Proposition 48 nonqualifier coming out of Santa Ana Valley High by passing 21 units last summer to earn his degree at Fullerton. The NCAA passed legislation last spring that made it possible for nonqualifiers to regain their fourth season by graduating in four years.

Harmon has averaged 16.6 points and 6.9 rebounds during his three seasons with the Titans.
