Hearing Today to Look at Rules for Ride Safety

King Coach Andy Murray proclaims himself a here-and-now guy, not a bad way to be in a business in which the persistent question is, “What have you done lately?”

“The only roll you have is you get to enjoy this game until the next practice,” said Murray. “To me, a roll is 60 minutes long.”

That didn’t keep him from reminding the Kings--erroneously, as additional research revealed--on Friday that the team unbeaten record is eight games, a carrot to get there a day later against the Colorado Avalanche.

It’s actually 11 (9-0-2 from Feb. 26 to March 24, 1974).

The Kings are at eight (6-0-2), and during that streak have had goals from eight forwards and three defensemen.

Goals have been spread throughout the lines, and even the power play--relatively dormant recently--got into the act Saturday when the Kings had three man-advantage goals in the second period of a 6-4 victory over the Avalanche.

They have yet to lose in November--the streak began on Nov. 2--and goalie Jamie Storr has given up only 14 goals in the eight games.

“We were just thinking about this game as being a big game,” Luc Robitaille said of the victory over Colorado. “This is the hottest team in the league. You can’t think about it being seven games and this is the eighth.”

Or about Thursday’s game against the New Jersey Devils being the ninth.

Storr has started 13 games in a row and has given up only 30 goals in going 8-3-2.

He wondered about No. 13.

“I heard on TV [on Friday] that this was going to be my 13th,” he said. “I thought I might be jinxed.”

Though he has lost some weight, he said that he suffers no fatigue from the extended play, crediting recent days off, including four before playing against the New York Islanders on Thursday and four more before lining up again on Thanksgiving against New Jersey.

Storr and recently recalled backup goalie Travis Scott played together in junior hockey in Canada at Windsor. . . . Defenseman Rob Blake’s assist Saturday was his 399th NHL point.
