Police were searching for a member of a Latino gang who they believe fired at two officers during a traffic stop this week.

Raymond Cruz allegedly fired five shots from his car while driving Tuesday night near Noble Avenue and Plummer Street when two officers attempted to stop him for an unsafe lane change, said Los Angeles Police Department Det. Mike Whelan. Neither officer was injured.

“We attempted to pull him over,” said Officer Jose Valle, who is part of Devonshire Division task force that had targeted gang activity. “He then started speeding away at 60 to 65 mph.”

Valle said the driver was steering with his left hand and shot with his right hand through the rear of the car, shattering the back window. None of the shots hit the police car, Valle said.

Police later found the car, which is registered to Cruz, in Mission Hills. Also found was a crutch, believed to be used by Cruz, police said.
