Fiset Feels Good After Workout

The nets were moved to the blue line for the last drill Wednesday, and the Kings sent two players on a mission to score on each goalie, which meant that shots came quickly, as did rebounds unhindered by defense. Goaltenders flopped all over the ice.

Stephane Fiset passed the test.

“It felt pretty good,” said Fiset, who last played a game in goal for the Kings on Sept. 22, in an exhibition at the Arrowhead Pond. There, he tangled his skate in a net while trying to make a save, straining a knee ligament.

“I was surprised a little. I didn’t know what to expect. . . . On some movements, I had a little pain, but overall I felt pretty good.”

Another test comes today when Fiset checks the knee for pain and/or swelling. There has been little lately, which is why he is closing in on a return to the lineup.

Fiset is close enough to go on the Kings’ next trip, which includes games at Pittsburgh on Saturday, at Boston on Sunday and at New York, against the Rangers, on Tuesday. The trip is merely to reacquaint him with the rigors of the road--Travis Scott will continue to back up Jamie Storr in goal--and when the Kings come home, Fiset may stay in Lowell, Mass., to play an AHL game Wednesday to test the knee.
