Crossing Guard William Hooper

* Re “Crossing Guard, 60, Killed by Motorist,” Nov. 22.

I grieve for William Hooper.

The killer raceways we refer to as “streets” (implying Ozzie and Harriet-like safety) have claimed another life.

I pray for William Hooper.

I saw him every morning helping young students cross the street as I drove to work. I often thought about the dangers as I saw near-misses or heard screeching tires.

I’ve worked in a building at the corner of Magnolia and Lankershim boulevards for three years. “Speedway thrills” have been a regular observation. It’s past time to act.

I implore everyone to slow down; tell your family, friends and employees. Then pick up the phone and / or write a letter to the North Hollywood police.

It’s time the traffic laws on the books are enforced. There is power in “one,” be it one call actually made or one ticket actually written.

Another life has been tragically ended. A fitting memorial to Hooper would be for the citizens and police to change Magnolia Boulevard so that it serves as an example for the entire city.
