The West Valley Academic Mentor Program needs mentors for kindergarten through eighth-grade students. Training is Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Parkman Middle School, 20800 Burbank Blvd., Woodland Hills. Call (818) 932-0306.
The Volunteer Center of Los Angeles needs volunteers to mentor disadvantaged middle-school students for the Los Angeles Team Mentoring’s Teamworks program. The East Valley Multipurpose Center in North Hollywood needs volunteers for several positions, including Web designers, kitchen assistant, basic Internet instructor, quilting instructor, Spanish-speaking activities coordinator, multiethnic and cross-generational chorus program leader and exercise instructor for seniors.
