Planners Advance Bicycle Project

Share

The city’s Transportation and Infrastructure Commission voted this week in favor of a Bicycle Transportation Plan that could bring the city some of the $5 million in annual state grants that will be available by 2004.

Commissioners are recommending that the City Council adopt the plan, which includes a map of existing and proposed bicycle trails, facilities, and safety and education programs. The plan also outlines future projects that would connect existing bike routes or establish parking stations along bike trails.

The City Council is expected to vote on the plan next month. If adopted, the city would be eligible to apply for bicycle transportation funds available through CalTrans. Those funds could be used to help pay for the improvements recommended in the plan.
