Larry Johnson admitted he and other New York Knick players thought they would have been better off without Patrick Ewing last season.

“[We]. . .probably would have wanted to see our team at times without Patrick on the floor, especially if he wasn’t 100%,” Johnson said. “To see how we would go against Indiana . . . a quicker team.”

Johnson quickly emphasized that the team still would have needed Ewing, traded to the Seattle SuperSonics last month, especially if they had advanced to the NBA finals and played the Lakers.
