Irvine Valley Beats OCC on Kanu’s Goal

Alfred Kanu scored on a breakaway after running down a long pass from Dimitri Mousdicas in the 68th minute, giving Irvine Valley a 1-0 victory over Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer game Friday at Irvine Valley.
Irvine Valley (5-6-2, 2-3) got 10 saves from goalkeeper Efrain Rodriguez, including a stop on a Pirate penalty kick. Orange Coast fell to 7-4-1, 3-1-1.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Irvine Valley 3, Orange Coast 1--Maribel Garcia, Jenny Pyle and Amy Wetherbee scored second-half goals for visiting Irvine Valley (7-5-2, 4-1).
Diane Meza scored in the 87th minute for Orange Coast (8-5-1, 3-2).
Golden West forfeits--The Rustlers had to forfeit their game against Cypress because of a lack of healthy players.
Cypress, ranked No. 1 in the state, is 15-0, 5-0. Golden West is 0-11, 0-5.
Santa Ana 4, Santiago Canyon 0--Ana Medina had a goal and two assists for Santa Ana, which outshot Santiago Canyon, 24-3. The Dons (7-4-3, 3-2) also got goals from Elya Ortiz, Noelle Garcia and Carrie Steinmeyer.
Santiago Canyon is 4-5-1, 2-3.
In the Citrus men’s water polo tournament:
Saddleback 12, Ventura 9--Jonny Geiger, from Laguna Beach High, scored four goals for Saddleback in a first-round game. The Gauchos lost to Golden West, 13-6, in the second round. Trevor Wawrzynski scored four goals for the Rustlers.
