Orange Coast Topples Previously Unbeaten Pasadena, 29-27

Orange Coast pulled off its second upset in as many weeks, beating previously unbeaten Pasadena, 29-27, Saturday night before about 700 at Pasadena.

Pasadena (4-1) drove to the Orange Coast three-yard line in the final minute. Pasadena quarterback Josh Knight passed to receiver Calvin Byrd for a touchdown to cut the lead to two with 27 seconds left, but Knight’s pass on a two-point conversion attempt was intercepted.

Orange Coast took a 14-0 lead on a five-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Higgs to Justin Dale in the first quarter and a four-yard touchdown run by running back Jared Kemp five seconds into the second quarter.

But Pasadena scored the next three touchdowns to take a 21-14 lead.

Orange Coast (2-3) came back, with Higgs passing to Dale for an 81-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter and Rob Pate kicking three consecutive field goals, the last one from 42 yards with just more than five minutes remaining to extend Orange Coast’s lead to 29-21.

Higgs completed 16 of 27 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns, and Dale finished with five catches for 151 yards.
