Panel Seeks Broader Use of Transit Funds

Share

A county transportation committee today will discuss the rules regarding how it uses state and federal transit funds.

The meeting is expected to include city leaders, local transit activists, the public and Ventura County Transportation Commission officials, who will discuss different ways to use a greater portion of nearly $19 million in annual funds for buses and trains, instead of for road construction or improvement.

Roseann Mikos, a member of the Citizens Transportation Advisory Committee, said, “We want to roll up our sleeves and find some wiggle room to redefine our standards here in Ventura County. We will never improve mobility in this county as long as transit is second-class. We need to see some leadership and vision on this.”

The meeting will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the large dining room off the cafeteria at the County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave.
