Tentative Accord Reached With Teachers

A tentative agreement on a new contract has been reached between the teachers union and the Conejo Valley Unified School District, the president of the school board announced late Tuesday.

Timothy Stephens said the deal was struck Tuesday afternoon with union representatives, but he would not disclose the terms until all of the teachers in the union had voted on it.

“But we’re optimistic the teachers will approve the terms,” he said during the board’s regular meeting.

Stephens’ announcement follows a Sept. 25 board meeting in which more than 300 teachers demanded at least a 10% pay hike.

In that meeting, several teachers told the board that they needed raises, but board members didn’t act because the matter wasn’t on the agenda.

Late last week, district officials indicated during negotiations that they would be willing to consider the teachers’ demands, a union representative said.
