The city is continuing its fight against the proposed El Toro Airport. Council members renewed a contract this month with the consulting firm of Mike Roos & Co. to help build support for the Great Park--a proposal that would build museums, parkland and educational campuses on the former Marine base, where a major commercial airport is also being proposed.

Council members last week voted to pay the consulting firm $240,000 to continue its work for another six months. The company hopes to secure grant funding to plan for the park, and to work closely with state representatives to help divert funding toward its creation.
