Buena Park Apartment Fire Deliberately Set, Officials Find

Share

A weekend fire that burned part of a Buena Park apartment and left a man incapacitated from smoke inhalation was deliberately set, arson investigators said Tuesday.

The fire started in the apartment’s bedroom about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said.

The victim’s neighbor, Sabino Casares, told authorities he saw smoke billowing from the apartment and kicked in the door to investigate.

Casares said he found the man on the floor and dragged him to safety.

The fire was determined to be an arson based on evidence found in the apartment, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Paul Hunter said. He did not say what evidence was found.

The apartment resident remains under treatment at West Anaheim Medical Center for smoke inhalation and is unable to speak to investigators, Hunter said.
