Jazz Quintet Comes to Cal State Northridge

Grammy-winning jazz bassist Dave Holland comes to Northridge tonight. Over the course of his career, Holland has worked with Miles Davis, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Stan Getz, Thelonious Monk and many others. He won the 2000 Grammy for the album “Like Minds” with Gary Burton. Performing with Holland tonight will be Antonio Hart on sax, Robin Eubanks on trombone, Steve Nelson on vibes and Billy Kilson on drums.

Annual Fall Festival in Pumpkin Town

The ninth annual Calabasas Pumpkin Festival, featuring live music, karaoke, contests, arts, crafts, food, mechanical bull riding, a hay maze, a climbing wall and more than 30 tons of pumpkins, will be this weekend at Paramount Ranch in Agoura. The name Calabasas comes from calabaza, the Spanish word for pumpkin.

Air Show and Open House at Edwards

Edwards Air Force Base will hold its annual open house Saturday. The event is a once-a-year chance for taxpayers to see how their money is being spent, watch aerial demonstrations and take close-up looks at various American and foreign aircraft on the ground. The theme for this year’s show is “Yesterday’s Heroes, Tomorrow’s Legends.” Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager and Maj. Gen. Joe Engle will kick off the air show in F-15s with sonic booms.

Saddle Up for West Day at Movie Ranch

Wild, Wild West Day at Iverson Movie Ranch, featuring films, music, celebrities, Western memorabilia, food, dancing and contests, is Saturday. More than 3,000 movies and television shows have been filmed at the Iverson Movie Ranch, including “Stagecoach” (1939), “The Grapes of Wrath” (1940), “Old Yeller” (1957) and “Along Came Jones” (1945). Proceeds will benefit the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Happy Trails Children’s Foundation.
