$1.1 Million Given to Youth Sports Groups

The Amateur Athletic Foundation awarded 20 grants totaling more than $1.1 million Thursday to various youth sports organizations.

LA’s BEST (Better Educated Students for Tomorrow), an after-school program that offers educational, recreational and enrichment activities, received $428,510 to help fund its efforts in more than 70 schools.

The Students Run LA program got $109,750 to increase the completion rate for girls participating in the training phase for the Los Angeles Marathon. Culver City Education Foundation received $50,00 to assist in constructing an all-weather track at Culver City High School.

Among other grant recipients, the Boys & Girls Club of America-West San Gabriel Valley will use its $34,750 to install a new gymnasium floor, while the Southern California Cricket Assn. will use $29,920 to introduce that sport at seven Los Angeles Unified School District schools.
