Andrew Golota, who quit after two rounds of his bout with Mike Tyson, was in the hospital Saturday and under observation for a concussion, the fighter’s promoter said.

Main Events spokesman Donald Tremblay said he was told by Kathy Duva, the firm’s chief executive officer, that Golota complained of nausea during the night and upon returning home to Chicago had head pain and more nausea.

“They’re running various tests,” said the boxer’s wife, Mariola, adding that Golota was admitted to Resurrection Medical Center under a different name. “They’re going to run other CT scans and an MRI.”

Golota, who was supposed to receive $2.5 million to $3.5 million, ended the bout in Auburn Hills, Mich., telling referee Frank Garza, “I quit.” He went to a hospital there to have a cut over his left eye repaired before returning home.

“Six or eight months ago, when I got Golota, I told him never to quit on me. He said he wouldn’t,” trainer Al Certo said. “This is boxing, not washing cars or shining shoes. You’re getting whacked. That’s what you get $3 million for. I told his wife he should forget about boxing.”

The Michigan State Athletic Commission withheld Golota’s check until today, when it was to review the videotape.
