Young called police from a nearby pay phone. When officers arrived, they found Young bleeding severely.

Officers arrested Jose Fercano, 22, of Highland Park a few blocks away. Young identified Fercano as his attacker before the injured man was taken by ambulance to Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center, said Burbank Police Sgt. Rick Young, who is not related to the victim.

Young was reported in stable condition, hospital officials said.

A knife was found near the scene, Sgt. Young said.

Fercano was charged with attempted murder and is in custody at Glendale City Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Glendale Municipal Court.

Police are uncertain of the motive for the attack.
